Welcome to Nunavik!

I’m Carol Aitken, an Accredited Counsellor with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I have over 15 years’ experience of counselling, specialising in stress & anxiety, building resistance, trauma and bereavement.

Working from my base in Livingston, West Lothian, I offer counselling and workshops and am able to travel across Scotland to provide support to organisations: training, critical incident support and support with change.

You can find more details on how I can help across the site, however some of the key ones are outlined below.

For Individuals:

Counselling:  Sometimes, we can feel a bit “stuck in a rut”, low or generally unhappy. At other times, it may be hard to come to terms with an illness or event or change that is impacting on life which is making it difficult. This is where counselling can help and rebuild confidence and self esteem.  Sessions are built around the individual and can be face-to-face, remote or even Walk and Talk. I offer assistance to individuals (adults and children 14+).

Walk and Talk: it has long been accepted that time spent relaxing outdoors, especially around nature has a positive effect on our mental health. However, for some, it also lets them talk more freely and in a way they might struggle to in the traditional indoor setting. Walk and Talk sessions can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to indoor sessions and remote sessions.

Workshops: these are for small groups of 4 to support individuals in gaining understanding and building techniques to support recovery from stress and anxiety, and gaining skills in building resilience.

For Organisations:

Training: To support organisations in supporting employees in these challenging times, I provide training workshops and briefings to support the awareness, knowledge and skills in this area, addressing mental health, stress management, building resilience and coping with change.

Wellbeing Checks – these are carried out for employees where there is a recognition that their role can impact their wellbeing due to the nature/content of the work.

Critical Incident Support: For those affected by a critical incident, the emotional and mental effects can manifest themselves almost immediately or can take days, weeks or even months to appear. I can support in the immediate aftermath of an incident and then in the months thereafter.
